A new residential development will be built in the Spondon suburb of Derby after an appeal on our client’s land was allowed.
Miller Homes has been granted outline planning permission for up to 90 new homes, including 30% affordable housing and two hectares of amenity greenspace. Contributions towards healthcare, sport facilities, a community centre, transport, offsite open space, and primary & secondary education are also included.
“The main case for the appeal was the development’s effect on the functionality on the Spondon/Chaddesden Green Wedge,” explains our Director, Trevor Wells.
“Green Wedges define the urban structure, help maintain the identity of different neighbourhoods and provide uninterrupted links to the countryside. Therefore, new development should not endanger the character of Green Wedges. Upon detailed inspection by the Planning Inspectorate, the landscape-led proposal for this development site, which includes the retention of existing tree cover and hedgerow features, was deemed not to fundamentally impact the most sensitive part of the Wedge. It also confirmed Spondon and Chaddesden would continue to be read as two separate and distinct communities.
“This is a very welcome outcome. We are delighted the appeal on this site has been permitted, meaning Miller Homes can bring high quality, family homes to Spondon. A Reserved Matters application is now underway and will be submitted shortly,” adds Trevor.
