AUTUMN – THE PERFECT TIME FOR LANDLORDS TO PREPARE PROPERTIES FOR WINTER

02 November 2018

With a noticeable chill in the air and the local metoffice forecasting November temperatures dropping below average as we move through the month – now is the perfect time for Landlords to prepare their properties for Winter and avoid unnecessary costs later on…

Here are some simple tips from us to you…

ENSURE YOUR TENANTS WAKE UP TOASTY

Now is the perfect time to arrange a boiler service especially if it has been switched off during the Summer months.

MyDeposits recommends keeping your heat on a very low setting throughout the Summer months to avoid burst pipes. The small cost in heat will far outweigh costly repairs to broken pipes.

WaterUK offers some great advice for insulating pipes, ensure outside pipes and unheated areas like a loft get additional attention when insulating.

CHECK PROPERTIES FOR ANY DAMAGE

Inspecting a roof for slipped tiles and minor structural damage before the harsher wet weather sets in will help to protect your property from water damage and the costs and inconvenience this can cause to both landlord and tenants.

CLEAR GUTTERING

Stop any blockages or clogging arising from heavy rainfall and dare we say snowfall by having your guttering cleaned and cleared out before winter. Too many leaves, moss and general debris in your guttering might cause it to overflow when mixed with rain or snowfall and cause damage.
